Range Cookers for Small Kitchens: Making 90cm Work

Range cookers get photographed in enormous kitchens, which gives the impression they need one. They don't. 90cm goes into a lot of ordinary UK kitchens without drama — but there are things worth knowing first.

Why 90cm usually fits

The standard renovation scenario is a 60cm cooker with a base unit beside it. Together that's often close to 90cm. So a 90cm range cooker frequently drops into space you already have, without moving anything else.

That's why 90cm is the most common range cooker width in the UK, and why stepping to 100cm is a much bigger deal than the 10cm suggests — it usually means losing another unit.

What you're giving up

Storage. If your 90cm gap is currently cooker plus a cupboard, you lose the cupboard. In a small kitchen that's real. Work out where those things go before you commit.

Worktop. A range cooker's top is a hob, not a work surface. In a small kitchen the loss of usable counter matters more than in a large one.

The third oven. At 90cm every Bertazzoni Professional Series model is twin oven — XG triple oven configurations start at 100cm. For most households that's no loss at all.

What you gain

Two proper oven cavities instead of one, a hob with real spacing, and a single appliance doing the work of a separate oven, hob and grill. In a small kitchen, consolidating three appliances into one footprint can actually free up wall and cabinet space overall.

Finishes that help a small room

White is the strongest choice here. A white cooker reads as part of the cabinetry and occupies visually less space than its actual width, so the room doesn't feel dominated. Yellow also lifts a small or north-facing kitchen that struggles for light.

Gloss black has the opposite effect — it anchors and weights a room, which is wonderful in a large kitchen and heavy in a small one. Stainless sits in between.

The extraction problem in small kitchens

Small rooms fill with steam faster, so extraction matters more, not less. But small kitchens often also have low ceilings or awkward layouts where a canopy hood is intrusive.
