What Is a Flat Pack Sauna?

A flat pack sauna is a premium outdoor sauna cabin that arrives at your door as a set of precision engineered, pre made panels packed into heavy duty wooden crates. Rather than being delivered as a fully assembled cabin on a truck (which requires a crane, wide access, and significant delivery cost), the sauna arrives in manageable pieces that fit through standard garden gates and side passages.

The panels are solid tongue and groove Canadian Hemlock, not thin flat pack furniture style chipboard. Each panel slots into the next with interlocking joints, and the whole structure is secured with bolts and fixings included in the kit. The result is a fully solid, insulated, weather resistant sauna cabin identical in quality and performance to a factory assembled unit.

Why Flat Pack Is Actually Better

Many buyers initially assume that a flat pack sauna is a compromise compared to a pre built cabin. In reality, flat pack delivery has significant practical advantages:

  • Access: A pre built 2m x 2m sauna cabin cannot fit through most UK garden gates or side passages. Flat pack panels can be carried through narrow access points by two people
  • Delivery cost: Shipping a fully assembled cabin requires specialist haulage (often £500 to £1,000+). Flat pack ships on a standard delivery vehicle with the cost included in the product price
  • Positioning: You can assemble the sauna in its final position, even in tight or awkward garden locations where a crane could not reach
  • Quality check: You see every panel and joint during assembly, so you can verify the build quality and address any transit damage before the cabin is complete
  • Speed: Delivery in 3 to 7 working days rather than waiting weeks for specialist transport

  • 8mm tempered glass front panel with hinged door
  • Harvia Finnish electric stove with 20kg Peridotite stones
  • Far infrared heating panels (pre wired where possible)
  • LED chromotherapy lighting unit
  • Bluetooth speaker system
  • All accessories (sand timer, thermo hygrometer, wooden bucket and ladle)
  • All fixings, bolts, and hardware
  • Step by step assembly manual with diagrams

Self Assembly vs Professional Installation

Self assembly is suitable for anyone comfortable with basic DIY. You need two people, basic hand tools (screwdriver, adjustable spanner, spirit level, rubber mallet), and a clear day. Most customers complete the build in 1 to 2 days. The panels slot together in a logical sequence and the manual walks you through each step with clear diagrams.

Professional assembly is our recommended option if you want a completely hands off experience. Our 3 person installation team will assemble the sauna on site, typically within 2 to 3 weeks of delivery. The cost is £750 for the 2 person model and £1,300 for the 4 person model. This includes full assembly but does not include the electrical connection, which must be done by a qualified electrician regardless of assembly method.

Electrical connection: Both self assembly and professionally assembled saunas require a qualified electrician to connect the unit to your power supply. This is a legal requirement and not something included in either assembly option. Budget £150 to £400 for the electrical connection depending on your existing setup.

Base Requirements

The sauna must be placed on a solid, level surface capable of supporting the cabin weight. Suitable bases include concrete pads, paving slabs, or solid timber decking. Use bearers or shed mats underneath to prevent damp transfer from the ground. The base must be prepared before the sauna is delivered.

If you do not have a suitable base, a local builder can lay a simple concrete pad in 1 to 2 days for £200 to £800 depending on size. This is a straightforward job that any competent builder or landscaper can handle.
