Pendant Light Styles
➡️ Linear Pendants (for islands & long tables)
A single long fixture that mirrors the shape of an island or rectangular dining table. The cleanest, most contemporary option — one statement piece instead of several. The Aurelia Wave (from £280) and Nordic Timber Line (from £240) are both designed exactly for this.
◯ Single & Cluster Pendants
Individual pendants hung alone over a spot, or grouped at staggered heights for a designer cluster. The HaloStone (from £130) works beautifully both ways. For a vintage industrial accent, the Vintage Orb Pendant (£125) suits bars, breakfast nooks and reading corners.
✨ Designer LED Statement Pendants
Where the pendant is as much sculpture as light source. The Contempo Wave & Ring LED Pendant (£180) uses interlocking geometric rings for a modern art-piece effect, and the Vienna Signature Crystal Pendant (£299) brings crystal sparkle in a sleek linear form.
How to Size & Hang Pendants Over an Island or Table
One linear pendant, or several round ones? If your island is under ~1.8m, one linear pendant (or two round pendants) is plenty. Longer islands take a long linear fixture or three evenly spaced round pendants.
Total width rule: the lit area should span roughly two-thirds the length of the island or table — leave even gaps at each end rather than running light fitting edge to edge.
Hanging height: the bottom of a pendant should sit about 75–85cm above the worktop or tabletop. Over an island where people stand, err slightly higher so sightlines across the kitchen stay clear.
Spacing for multiples: centre the group on the island, then space pendants evenly — a common approach is to divide the island into equal sections and hang one pendant in the centre of each.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pendants over a kitchen island?
For islands up to ~1.8m, one linear pendant or two round pendants. For 1.8–2.6m, two to three round pendants or one long linear fixture. Always centre the arrangement on the island and keep gaps even.
How high should pendants hang over an island?
The bottom of the pendant should sit about 75–85cm above the worktop. Go slightly higher over an island where people stand and move around.
Linear pendant or multiple pendants — which is better?
A single linear pendant gives the cleanest, most modern look and is easier to install (one fixing point). Multiple round pendants give a softer, more traditional feel but need careful, even spacing.
What colour temperature is best for a kitchen?
Warm white (around 3000K) for a cosy, inviting kitchen; neutral white (around 4000K) if you want a brighter, crisper task light over a prep island. Several of our pendants offer both.
