Are Bertazzoni Range Cookers Worth It? An Honest UK Buyer's View

We stock 64 Bertazzoni range cookers, so treat what follows with the scepticism it deserves. But there's no long-term value in selling someone a £5,000 appliance they resent, so here is the honest version.

What Bertazzoni genuinely does well

Design that holds up. The Professional Series has looked essentially the same for years, and that's the point. Solid metal knobs, a heavy front rail, deep gloss colour. It doesn't chase trends, which is why a ten-year-old Bertazzoni still looks deliberate rather than dated. Very few appliance brands manage that.

The hob. On dual fuel models, the brass burners are the real thing — brass conducts heat well and survives years of cleaning better than the aluminium alternatives. The dual-ring power burner is the feature worth paying for: it drops to a genuine low simmer and climbs to full searing output. Most gas hobs fail at one end of that range or the other.

Oven capacity. Bertazzoni's oven openings are among the widest in their class, and the XG models add an extra-large main cavity on top of that. If you have ever tried to get a large roasting tin into a standard 60cm oven, you will understand why this matters more than the spec sheet suggests.

Colour. Nobody else does colour at this level with this conviction. Seven finishes, and the bold ones are properly bold rather than apologetic pastels.

The honest criticisms

Aftercare reputation is mixed. This is the recurring theme in online reviews, and it would be dishonest to skip past it. You will find owners who had a fault handled quickly and owners who spent months chasing a repair. The pattern that emerges is less about the product and more about whether there is competent service coverage in your area.

Our advice, which applies whoever you buy from: before you commit, ask the retailer who services this brand near you and how they handle a fault in year two. If they can't answer clearly, that tells you something. We'd rather you asked us that question than didn't.

Electronics fail before mechanics. Where Bertazzonis do develop faults, it tends to be programmers, ignition components and control electronics rather than burners or oven cavities. That's true of most modern appliances with digital controls, but it's worth knowing that the parts most likely to need attention are the ones you interact with daily.

It's a premium price for premium design. A £4,099 Bertazzoni will not cook better than a well-made £2,000 range cooker in any way you can measure with a thermometer. What you're paying for is the hob quality, the oven size, the materials and the way it looks in the room. That is a legitimate thing to buy. It is not a value purchase.

Who should buy something else

If you cook rarely and mostly reheat, a range cooker of any brand is money spent on capability you won't use. A good 60cm oven and a decent hob will serve you better and free up kitchen space.

If you want the absolute lowest lifetime cost, buy a mainstream brand with dense UK service coverage and cheap parts.

If you specifically want the muted Master Series palette or the country-kitchen Heritage look, we don't stock those — go to a retailer who does rather than settling for a Professional Series model you're lukewarm about. Colour and styling are the hardest things to live with when they're not quite right.

Who should buy one

People who cook properly and often, who want a hob with real control at both ends of the heat range, who need oven capacity for entertaining, and who care how the kitchen looks. That's a real group of people, and Bertazzoni serves them better than most.

If that's you, the practical starting point is the 90cm twin oven dual fuel in stainless steel at £4,099 — the same burners, ovens and build as models costing £2,000 more.

Before you buy anything

Three questions that matter more than the brand: does your kitchen aperture actually fit, can the unit physically get through your doorways, and do you have the right gas or electrical supply in the right place? More range cooker purchases go wrong on those three than on anything to do with cooking.
